About us The New Mexico Media Literacy Project, founded in 1993, is one of the largest and most successful media literacy organizations in the United States. Our mission is to cultivate critical thinking and activism in our media culture to build healthy and just communities. We currently have seven staff and interns. What we do: NMMLP is nationally recognized as a leader in media literacy education. We have worked with schools, nonprofit organizations and government agencies across the nation, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, National Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, National Latino Council on Alcohol and Tobacco Prevention, American Indian Tobacco Education Network, and Community Technology Centers Network (CTCNet). The New Mexico Media Literacy Project is an outreach project of Albuquerque Academy, an independent school (grades 6-12) in Albuquerque NM. Albuquerque Academy is our fiscal agent, and it provides important in-kind support. NMMLP receives financial support from the New Mexico Department of Health, McCune Foundation, New Mexico Community Foundation, Albuquerque Academy Educational Foundation, and other public and private donors. We also earn income from sales of our multimedia resources, honoraria, and training fees. In order to preserve our independence, NMMLP does not accept funding from media corporations.
